The terrain of Malaysia is mainly plain, with flat and less undulating terrain. Malaysia is located near the equator and belongs to a tropical rainforest climate and a tropical monsoon climate. It is well known that impact rollers have a wide range of requirements for the moisture content of the roadbed, including desert granular sand with a moisture content ranging from 1% -2% to saturated clay with a moisture content of 17%, which can achieve ideal compaction results.

When compacting saturated clay, the strong rubbing action of the impact roller can squeeze out the interstitial water to the ground, thereby reducing the water content of the lower layer of soil, accelerating the displacement of soil particles, and improving the compactness of the deep layer of soil and the bonding force of the upper and lower layers.

However, it is necessary to have a correct understanding of the wide range of water content for impact compaction. Due to the high-energy compaction function of the impact roller, which is equivalent to the compaction work of the super heavy compaction standard, the water content that reaches the heavy compaction degree only expands within the range of less than the better water content, and the range of more than the better water content will not expand.

Therefore, depending on the plasticity index of the soil, the moisture content should be controlled with a consistency of no less than 1.1~1.2, otherwise the soil layer will form spring soil and cannot be compacted due to stamping.

The range requirements for the water content of impact rolling are as follows:

(1) Fine grained soil content ≥ 50%, wopt-4 ≤ w ≤ wopt+2;

(2) Fine grained soil content<50%, wopt-3 ≤ w ≤ wopt+2;

(3) The upper limit of water content for impact compaction of high liquid limit soil can be relaxed to 28%;

(4) If the water content exceeds this range, the control range can be determined based on actual conditions and experimental verification.
